Välkommen Trail
Välkommen Trail is a beautiful all-weather bicycle and pedestrian trail. The trail was converted from the abandoned Missouri – Pacific and Union Pacific rail beds. Take time to read the historical signage emphasizing points of interest about Lindsborg’s early history. The trailhead starts at the 200 block of E. Lincoln.
Coronado Heights
Winner of 8 Wonders of Kansas! Geography. Coronado Heights rises 300 feet above the valley floor making it a perfect location for watching a sunset or the sun rise, flying kites and a picnic. Hiking and biking trails are plentiful as well. There is a castle that was built in 1936 in as part of the WPA program in commemoration to Coronado’s visit in 1541. Three miles northwest of Lindsborg off of 13th Avenue and Coronado Heights Road.
Höglund Dugout
What do you do when there is no lumber to build a home in the 1860s? You dig! Gustaf and Maria Höglund, a young husband and wife from Fernebo, Sweden, created their first home in a simple pit, or dugout, about 6 ft. x 12 ft. in the summer of 1868. They used their wagon as a roof and lived in the dugout for two years. Head south on Main Street out of town. Main Street will curve and you will be going west and the road will change to Hwy 4. Continue west for one mile to 13th Ave. Turn north or right onto 13th Avenue ½ to ¾ of a mile you will see an opening in the hedgerow (tree line) on the east side of the road, pull in. There is an iron rail fence that depicts the parking area. An opening in the fence is the beginning of a mowed path. Follow the path approximately ½ of a city block and you will see the dugout.
First Lindsborg Location
Look to the east about 1 mile after the dugout for a large rectangle monument in the middle of the field. That is where the first Bethany Church was located and in this area is where Lindsborg started. The town site was moved to its current location to be closer to the river.

A self guided walking tour of the homes of early movers and shakers in Lindsborg. Pick up a map at the Travel Information Center on Main Street and find the location of the first flush toilet in Lindsborg!
Geocaching
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers called geocaches outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.
Tennis
This town takes tennis seriously. With courts in various locations and the newly refurbished Ron Dahlsten Tennis Complex, get out and play! First come, first serve basis. Located at Smoky Valley High School, Bethany College campus, and Swensson Park.
Picnic at the Old Roller Mills
Picnic by the Smoky River! See the rock in a cage! For a modest fee, tour the Old Mill and Heritage Square with a restored 1898 Flour Mill and the 1904 World’s Fair Swedish Pavilion. Located at 120 Mill Street.
Labyrinth and Peace Park
The labyrinth is an ancient symbol found across many cultures and one of the world’s oldest is on the Swedish island of Gotland in the town of Visby. Many people find spiritual benefit simply in walking the marked path. Shaded gardens, benches, and a Peace Pole create a haven for rest, relaxation, and prayer. The international prayer for peace, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” is written on the Peace Pole in twelve languages. Located next to the Messiah Lutheran Church 402 N. First Street on Bethany College campus.
Meadowlark Trail
The Meadowlark Trail is a 13-mile rail-to-trail conversion connecting the towns of Lindsborg and McPherson in central Kansas. The trail curves through pastures, farmland, gently rolling hills and creek valleys, following a portion of the Smoky Hill River and crossing 11 bridges. Located at the southernmost end of the Välkommen Trail.
